Margaret Lindsey, MFA

Art + Consciousness Educator, Mentor, Author & Speaker

Hello,

Margaret is a dynamic creativity mentor, educator and facilitator. Her skills have been honed by her years as a professor of Arts & Consciousness at J.F.K.U., and as the director of award-winning art programs at various private and public schools. She is a passionate retreat and workshop leader as well, delighting in offering art processes and consciousness skills to a wide range of participants. Rounding things out: as an art director at the successful graphic design business she founded, she flexed a different skill set, helping clients as diverse as dance companies, publications and start-ups identify and define and develop their visual presentation in the world.

She now designs and guides conscious art practices and expressive art programs in various settings, including graduate seminars, workplace retreats, year-long programs for youth, workshops for adults, webinars, and one-on-one mentoring sessions.

If you ask her why she makes art, why she teaches, she answers " Because I must. My finished paintings are essentially maps--records of my experiences along the consciousness journey." This drives the work and play that she crafts for other people. She guides people through conscious art practice and expressive art play, inviting them to discover and give form to their own uncharted terrain. All practices she offers her students and clients are creative life practices she uses herself.

"ART" is a verb, she says, a creative action taken, rather than a thing that is made. Creativity is a an essential method of inquiry for knowing and contemplation.

She has been creatively mapping her terrain for as long as she can remember. Even as a child, she drew maps of places and things that were from other worlds or times: maze-like labyrinths, or blue-prints of imaginal buildings, wild road-maps to and through mythical landscapes. She paints in her studio in the Nevada City, CA, and shows locally and internationally.
